Another important use of fluorite is to produce hydrofluoric acid. Hydrofluoric acid is produced by the reaction of acid grade fluorite (fluorite concentrate) with sulfuric acid in heating furnace or tank. It can be divided into anhydrous hydrofluoric acid and aqueous hydrofluoric acid. They are colorless liquid, volatile, with strong pungent smell and strong corrosiveness. It is a key raw material for the production of various organic and inorganic fluorides and fluorine elements.
Building materials industry
Fluorite is also widely used in glass, ceramics, cement and other building materials industry, and its consumption occupies the second place in China.
In glass industry, fluorite is added as flux and shading agent, which can promote the melting of glass raw materials; in cement production, fluorite is added as mineralizer. Fluorite can reduce the sintering temperature of furnace charge, reduce fuel consumption, enhance the liquid viscosity of clinker during sintering, and promote the formation of tricalcium silicate; in ceramic industry, fluorite is mainly used as enamel, which can play the role of color aid and melting aid in the production process of enamel; fluorite is also used in enamel industry and casting stone production.
